If you wear the same jeans and t-shirt day after day, it will make you depressed. Taking comfort in the familiar is one thing, but not experimenting (while it is still safe but lots of fun) is another. When things become old and boring they need sprucing up to do. It’s never fun to have an old wardrobe. Why do fashions and trends evolve? The answer here would be most definitely to create a movement of change. Why do you go for a haircut, a makeover or buy a new dress? When people notice these little changes it probably does lift your mood, similarly bringing a change around your house by following small and simple steps can uplift the outlook and make you a proud house owner.
Pushing the right buttons :
Change your door knobs, knock the old ones off and install new ones. They come in a large variety and available at all virtual and commercial hardware stores. Check out websites, look for best buys and most importantly buy the ones, which truly reflect your home’s personality. There are some people who have larger budgets and are willing to indulge in custom made glass door handles that are encrusted with precious and semi precious stones. While others go for a classier look by opting for brass and then there are those people who have a penchant for antique door handles. Not everyone can afford to choose to such expensive pieces, for them chrome, stainless steel and wood are perfect choices. These door handles come in various shapes, designs and finishes. They make your doors stand out without putting in a lot of effort. In fact for an even more personalized touch you can get a do-it-yourself manual and install them yourself. This will save you a lot of money too.
Throw things around :
If you have a lamp next to the sofa, why don’t you change its position and bring it near the potted plant? You can throw in a few colorful (but not tacky floor cushions) a small inexpensive rug under the coffee table and viola you’re all set to go. Small changes, repositioning of everyday objects can create an interest. If there’s a corner in your home that you are particularly fond of, then you can make it the centre point. Just decorate your home in a certain way that, your favorite corner stands out, bring in a painting from a flea market perhaps or use fresh flowers.
Paint! Paint! Paint! :
You can paint your one living room wall a lovely sunshine yellow or deep lavender or just stark red, depending upon the theme, which is running in your house. If you want to be adventurous you can even use texture to create a fun effect on the walls. Paint the old kitchen cabinets, it is cheaper than polish and can be done on your days off. It’s such a wonderful feeling to be able to do something for your home and make it look aesthetically pleasing yet homely too.
